In any race, 2nd place is the 1st loser. No one remembers who played against superbowl champions or who the lawyer was that lost THE BIG CASE. Losers are quickly buried and forgotten.
In the DR space, 2nd place means you lost a traffic auction and couldn’t convert as high as your competition. In extreme cases it’s akin to death. In most cases it’s even worse, it’s mediocrity.
If you can’t be the best at what you’re doing, then it may be time to start investing your time elsewhere. Time, the most precious commodity we hold, must be closely managed. It’s better to divorce yourself from a project/business then spend your entire life working toward a dead end.
I have walked away from many campaigns that appeared promising on the outside, but didn’t make sense in the long-run. Various factors come into play: market, barrier-to-entry, risk, opportunity cost, etc.
So what’s the secret to getting in 1st place?
Nothing I haven’t talked about before, but that’s what it is!
